Poly Evolver Keyboard: Sliding Brass

This piece uses a somewhat strange sound – slow and lumbering, which has dictated the music itself. It’s a brass patch that just barely qualifies because it uses only minimal envelope controlled modulation of the filter. In addition, I’ve added glide/portamento, which has quite a mind of its own. DSI glide is unique and often difficult to control, but at times it sounds very effective. On this piece, I think it’s a bit overdone, but that’s what these improvisations are for – testing ideas. Which means, sometimes stepping back and realizing, uh…that didn’t work so well.

On the other hand, this piece gives some sense of the massiveness of the Poly Evolver character and musical power. It is a joy to play this superb synthesizer because the sonic satisfaction is always high.

Improvisation #82 for Poly Evolver Keyboard

I’ve been working on some compositions, so I thought in the mean time I’d post this improvisation from a previous session. The main patch, played on the lower PEK+PER pair, is perhaps my very favorite Evolver patch, and the type that accounts for my being drawn back again to the synthesizer. I love the nobility of tone and immensity of sound.

The melody patch, played on the upper PEK, is a sort of digital reed. The pedal patch is the fullest I’ve yet used. 100% Evolver, from top to bottom. There’s even a special Evolver “pop” at the very end!
